Data Sources & Methodology

Every data point in TradePilot comes from official Taiwanese government sources.

We do not estimate tax rates ourselves. All figures are sourced directly from official databases such as the Customs Administration and the Ministry of Finance, and are kept regularly in sync.

Why Customs Exchange Rates?

Customs Exchange Rate (used by TradePilot)
  • Published by Customs Administration on the 1st, 11th, and 21st of each month
  • Legally mandated for dutiable value conversion
  • Matches actual customs assessment — no unexpected discrepancies
Market Rate (bank quoted rate)
  • Fluctuates daily, leading to inconsistent calculations
  • Not used by customs during clearance
  • May cause tax estimate deviations

The customs exchange rate is set pursuant to Article 29 of the Customs Act and differs from bank buying/selling rates. TradePilot automatically syncs the latest rate table after each ten-day update, ensuring calculations align with the customs assessment basis.

Important Regulatory Notes

2025 De Minimis Threshold Abolished

Before 2025: Dutiable value under NT$2,000 was tax-exempt (except tobacco, alcohol, and tariff-quota agricultural products)

From 2025: The exemption threshold has been abolished. All imported parcels are subject to customs duties regardless of value.

Frequent Import Rule: 6 Times per 6 Months

If the same recipient has received duty-free clearance more than 6 times within a 6-month period, the 7th shipment onward will be taxed regardless of value. Shipments from the same sender on the same day are counted together.

⚠️ The platform cannot determine each user's import frequency, but calculation results will include a reminder about this rule.

FAQ

Where does TradePilot's tariff data come from?

All tariff rates come from the Taiwan Customs Administration Open Data Platform (data.customs.gov.tw), official government data that TradePilot automatically syncs on a regular basis.

Why not use real-time exchange rates?

Customs uses the ten-day customs exchange rate (updated on the 1st, 11th, and 21st of each month), not real-time bank rates. Using market exchange rates would produce results inconsistent with what customs actually charges. TradePilot uses the same rate as customs to keep calculations reliable.

How accurate is the AI classification?

Accuracy is divided into three confidence zones: Green (>85%) is high confidence with a full GRI reasoning chain; Yellow (60–85%) provides an initial classification with clear disclosure of risk and alternative candidates; Red (<60%) does not force an answer and recommends expert review. We continuously calibrate accuracy using user feedback.
