Tax calculation is complex and layered
Taiwan imports can face up to 8 layers of tax: customs duty, commodity tax, tobacco/alcohol tax, health surcharge, VAT, trade promotion fee… each with a different base, and a wrong calculation directly hits your bottom line.
HS Code classification is a high barrier
12,700 CCC tariff codes, many with ambiguous definitions. Misclassification can trigger back taxes or customs delays — most importers cannot do this reliably on their own.
Taiwan Low-Value Import Exemption
Dutiable value of NT$2,000 or less is exempt from customs duty, commodity tax, and VAT. The exemption no longer applies after the same recipient has more than 6 duty-free clearances in 6 months, and it does not apply to tobacco or alcohol. TradePilot helps shoppers and businesses estimate landed costs.
